Ape is one of the smallest towns in Latvia. The area of Ape is 12 734 ha and its population is 1700 people.

The historic beginnings of this little town date back to the year 1420 – it was the period of Livonian order. Baron Delvig has left a great influence on Ape development. Ape has original architecture, in the historical centre you can see an old romantic street built from the local material dolomite.

In Ape rural area, you can see interesting geological structures (dolomites and sandstone). “Witches cliffs” and “Dzenīšu” willow in the banks of the river Vaidava represent Ape the best. Grube waterfall experiences the renaissance with the newly built hydropower station; it is a picturesque recreational area.
